Childcare at events is increasingly requested by participants. Especially when planning events with external guests, it can be useful to consider offering childcare. We have compiled some information here for you about the services at JGU that you can use to organize childcare.

As the event organizer, you bear the costs for childcare at your event. If your event is (co-)financed by third-party funds, inquire whether there is a subsidy for childcare. If your conference is supported by “Stufe I” of the internal university research funding, you may also be able to apply for childcare through this. Alternatively, you can inquire about childcare needs during registration and charge an additional conference fee to finance childcare, or consider childcare costs when calculating the conference fee.

Organizing inhouse care, i.e., care on campus, has the advantage that children can be cared for in close proximity to their parents. This can be particularly comfortable for parents of very young children who may still be breastfeeding or need assistance with naps, as they can quickly reach their child from the event. Especially if multiple children need care, the inhouse option may be the more practical solution for you.

For childcare, JGU works with an external provider through which inhouse care can also be booked. It is important that you register your needs early (at least one month in advance, preferably earlier).

As a location where you can have children cared for on campus, the Family Work Room in the Kreuzbau is a good option. It is already equipped with toys, books, changing and sleeping facilities, and a small kitchen, so the essentials for childcare are already available. If you prefer to have the children cared for closer to the event location, there may be an option to borrow a KidsBox, which can simply be set up in a nearby room. At JGU, some facilities have such a KidsBox that can be borrowed if needed and available. Feel free to contact us about this.

You have the option to have children cared for at the backup facility 3K – Kinder, Kunst, Kultur on Münsterstraße (near Münsterplatz) for JGU events. Especially if only a few children need care, care at the backup facility is usually more cost-effective compared to inhouse care and involves less organization. JGU employees and students can even have their children cared for free of charge at the backup facility for up to three days a year as part of the childcare in emergency and exceptional circumstances service. So, please feel free to inform your JGU-internal participants about this offer. If you would like to have children cared for at 3K as part of your event, please contact us as early as possible.
